Summit Point, Sept. 24th - 25th

This past weekend saw another repeat sweep for the Flatoutracing/Team iCarp team at Summit Point Raceway in the next to last rounds of the East Coast Honda Challenge Series. Regulars Jon Kofod and Andrew Zimmermann were joined by 2004 H4 co-champion Ian Carpenter for the first time this season and James Mazzone. The team fielded three cars on both days.

In a repeat of the previous two rounds at Beaverun, Kofod sat on pole both days. Followed by Kofod for Saturday's race were teammates Ian Carpenter in 2nd and Andrew Zimmermann in 3rd. Saturday's race saw Kofod open up an early lead on Carpenter, Zimmermann and first time H4 competitor Sebastien Richard in the #19 H4 Honda Civic. Carpenter, Zimmermann and Richard battled together for most of the race with Zimmermann setting up a pass in turn 7 with two laps to go to beat teammate Carpenter to second place. Carpenter held off Richard to complete the podium sweep for the Flatoutracing/Team iCarp group. The win further tightened Kofod's lead in H4.

For Sunday's race, James Mazzone, stepped in to race Carpenters car in H4. Neither Kofod nor Zimmermann got a very good start as Kofod missed a shift and Zimmermann encountered too much wheel spin on the start. After the first lap was sorted out, Kofod was part of a four-car pack including Todd Reid in the ReidSpeed Probe GT, the SE-R Cup car of Eric Rosen and the SU3 class Alfa Spyder of Dave Richardson. Zimmermann was not far behind battling with Steven Harper's SE-R Cup car.

With three laps to go Zimmermann started closing in on Kofod, after getting by Harper. Kofod was stuck behind the battling Reid and Rosen and Richardson's Alpha. Unable to get by Richardson, Kofod held off Zimmermann's late charge to take his eight straight win this season.

"I had several opportunities to advance my position early in the race against the Probe and the SE-R Cup car but couldn't afford to have an incident. By the end of the race my tires were gone and I couldn't get by them and Andrew started closing in fast," noted Kofod.

This past weekend further strengthened Flatoutracing/Team iCarp's hold on H4 class with Kofod and Zimmermann taking 1st and 2nd and Mazzone coming in 4th. The team will wrap up the season at Summit Point on October 16th. Kofod only needs to finish both races to win his second consecutive East Coast Honda Challenge title.
