July 17th (Summit Point, WV)

The newly formed Flatoutracing/Team iCarp team (sponsored by Hankook Tires and Guident Technologies) took home consecutive 1st and 2nd place victories in Saturday's feature race and 1st and 3rd on Sunday at Summit Point's annual Hyperfest, sponsored by Hankook Tires. Hankook Tires, one of the fastest growing tire companies in the US, is rapidly gaining a strong foothold in both the motorsports area and consumer passenger tire market.

Hyperfest is the premier showcase for import racing and drifting on the east coast. Activities for the weekend included NASA Pro Racing divisions (including East Coast Honda Challenge), drift contests, high performance driving schools and other activities targeted at the growing import market.

Flatoutracing/Team iCarp's Jon Kofod sat on pole for Saturday's race followed by teammate Andrew Zimmmerman. Team member Leo Wong sat in 5th spot at the onset of the race. The first lap proved quite entertaining when Zimmerman and Curpier Motorsports' Adam Springler's H3 Prelude made contact with each other in turn 4 sending Springler into the grass. Zimmerman narrowly missed taking out his teammate Kofod in turn 5.

At the same time Kofod had to run wide at turn 5 to avoid a three-car pile up after Davis Acura's Matt Bookler spun in his H1 car. Kofod got through the pile up unscathed but the rest of the pack had trouble getting through. From that point on Kofod was by himself as the faster H1 cars were at least a half a lap ahead. Kofod cruised home to his 4th consecutive H4 win (dating back to 04) and Zimmerman took home 2nd. Wong finished 7th.

Sunday's race was somewhat a subdued affair after Wong had a huge incident in turn 10 during qualifying when he ran wide and ended up sustaining a heavy impact to the front of his car along the inside pit wall. To the relief of everyone, Wong was uninjured and able to get out of the car on his own.

Qualifying ended with Kofod on pole followed by teammate Zimmerman along side him. The race started with less of the drama of Saturdays race but Kofod got a bad start and was immediately passed by the ADS H5 CRX of David Harrison and the H4 CRX of Jerry Birchmore. Less than a lap later the race was red flagged when a Spec Miata ran wide in turn three and ended up in the woods. The field was re-grided to the original starting order and this time Kofod got a much better start along with Zimmermann and Harrison.

Over the ensuing laps Kofod chased down the H3 of Adam Springler and the two cars ran bumper to bumper for five laps before Springler went wide in turn 5 and Kofod got by and cruised on to 1st place ahead of Jerry Birchmore and Zimmerman who finished 3rd.

This was the first weekend that Flatoutracing and Team iCarp raced together under the Hankook Tires and Guident sponsorship. The team wished to thank both sponsors for their invaluable support.
