Summit Point, WV (July 10th) The Flatoutracing/Guident Technologies/HRPWorld.com team left Summit Point with two second place finishes at this past weekend's NASA Pro Racing's Hyperfest races and remains atop the championship standings.

In Saturday's feature race Flatoutracing's Jon Kofod started second on the grid behind pole sitter Gregg Ginsberg in the #72 CRX. Ginsberg and Kofod ran lap times all day that were within tenths of a second. In practice the two were separated by less than 2/10th's of a second and the gap shrunk to about 1/10th during qualifying.

At the start of the race Ginsberg got a very good start and was able to pass several cars after Kofod got stuck in traffic. Several laps into the race mayhem struck when two separate incidents involving the Porsche 944 Cup cars (also running this weekend with East Coast Honda Challenge) brought out the double yellow flags for nearly 10 laps.

On the restart Kofod was able to get back within striking distance of Ginsberg but the race ended 3 laps later with Ginsberg taking the win followed by Kofod in second and rounding out the podium with JE Import Performance's Lyonel Kent in 3rd.

Sunday's race saw what has to be the most exciting Honda Challenge race of the season. Kent qualified on Pole with the next three competitors each separated by less than 2/10th's of a second. Ginsberg qualified second with Kofod third and Team Hankook Tires' Ian Carpenter's Acura Integra in fourth.

At the start Kofod was able to get by both Ginsberg and Kent coming out of turn 2 to take the lead but then had to take all four wheels off into the grass in turn 9 to avoid a spinning H1 car. Kent got a run on Kofod and passed him on the outside in turn 10 with Ginsberg completing his pass in turn one at the end of the straight. Only two corners later Kent and Ginsberg went two wide through turn 3 and Kofod was able to get a run on Ginsberg and pass him in turn 4. Then in turn 10 Kofod got by Kent to take the lead for the next few laps before Kent re-passed Kofod in turn 1 but wasn't able to hold the position as Ginsberg also got by.

Over the next few laps Kofod was able to open up a 4 to 5 car length gap but the two cars had to deal with frequent traffic from the slower Porsches. With three laps to go Kofod got held up by a local yellow and two Porsches and Ginsberg immediately closed the gap down to inches. Ginsberg attempted several passes at the end of the straight but on both occasions Kofod took the inside line and was able to hold Ginsberg off.

On the final lap both cars went side by side into turn 3 with Ginsberg coming out ahead. Kofod got one final run on Ginsberg coming out of turn 10 onto the main straight with both competitors doing a side-by-side drag race to the finish line. Ginsberg won by inches at the checker.

"Gregg and I turned lap times all weekend that were dead even. Saturday's race was a disappointment in that Gregg and I got separated by slower traffic and really didn't get to race one another" stated Kofod. "I really thought I had Sunday's race in the bag until the local yellow in turn 1 came out. I had about a 3-car length lead on Gregg. Both of us had used out tires up and were sliding all over the place. I held off Gregg in turn 3 on the next to last lap but we ended up right back in turn 3 again on the last lap but at this point I knew that if we both went in side by side I would likely have taken us both out. My tires were completely spent at this point."

Next up are rounds 7 and 8 at Virginia International Raceway on July 31st.
